Peace?

The background why I created it: The most of people in the world long for a peaceful and happy life without guns and blood. But to be the different Union there are different conflicts of interest, in this situation, some super nations arbitrary interfere others. For example the Iraq War 2007 and today’s Syrian War.

Pray for peace

“War and peace” is an eternal issue facing mankind in the past, present and future. At present, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify, and the potential “nuclear crisis” under the confrontation and arms race between major powers is touching Pandora’s box, and the alarm bell has already sounded. “Peace” requires the common wisdom of mankind…

Achievment over life

The Japanese even have a name for it: Karojisatsu, suicide from overwork. A society that places achievement over the human being isn‘t only the reality in Japan. Even though we have no word for it yet, we need to change something. Otherwise we will need one very soon. I demand: Let’s distance ourselves from the pressure of achievement, back to more quality of life.

Where the hell

Death penalty is a controversial topic. Despite our worldwide humanist society, there are still countries that try to atone for almost medieval ways of punishment of certain crimes by the death of the accused. The question of how it can be fair to repay an injustice, such as the death of a person caused willfully by the same injustice is something unacceptable and certainly incomprehensible. We believe that with thorough and conscientious thinking, everyone should come to this conclusion. The fact that Germany is no longer in use of this inhuman punishment shouldn’t distract from the fact that many other countries are still carrying out this procedure.

Melting North

Before 2050, the Arctic pack ice will melt completely in summer, even if ambitious climate targets are met. Nowhere on Earth is warming happening as rapidly as in the Arctic. The consequences are problematic for both humans and nature. The bright ice sheet plays a crucial role in the climate system by reflecting sunlight back into space, cooling the Arctic, and preventing further heating of the Earth’s atmosphere. While the ice masses melt, sea levels rise, coastal areas flood worldwide, extreme weather phenomena become more frequent.

No Posters. Discussions!

The poster takes up on the design of typical german prohibition signs and their language. There are many prohibition signs in Germany and the yellow ones with black borders are a common sight. Often applied to guard against trespassing or to keep people from putting up posters.

The signal effect and imperative nature of these signs is retained in order to play with familiar visual patterns. The command „Diskutieren statt plakatieren!“ could roughly translate to „No Posters. Discussions!“

On the surface „Diskutieren statt plakatieren!“ looks like a prohibition sign but beneath that is a demand for a more nuanced culture of discussion beyond slogans and the language of campaigning.

Hangers-on (hangers-on are half nazis)

Not considering yourself a Nazi does not mean you’re allowed to be rassistic towards others in public. Same as the sentence „I don’t have anything against foreigners, but …“ often ends with the complete opposite opinion. This is a poster to remind all the concerned citizens on what the other people really think about their behaviour.

Darfur

In Darfur a civil war has cost 300.000 human lives and let 2,5 million people to flee the country since 2003. The government backed mounted militias “Dschandschawid” destroy villages, massacring and raping the population. Famine and draught further worsen the lives of the people. In the media everyday life we don´t hear much about Darfur. Many can´t even place the word. Because of this “Darfur” for me stands for the injustice in the world that we don´t know about or possibly don´t want to know about. It might be worth it to reflect on what is truly important in life and the world.

Myopia

At a time when society is divided by global challenges, right-wing populists often come up with simple solutions, not aimed at the complexity of the problem at hand but at peoples fears and worries. Rising refugee figures have stirred a debate in Germany in 2016, thus being a catalyst for the party “Alternative für Deutschland”.

Peoples insecurities and resignation in politics have led to electoral success of the party in question.

Women

Women are still oppressed and disadvantaged by men in the most diverse areas of life. In the family, as well as in the public and the world of work, they are affected by social inequalities, which are caused, among other things, by traditional roles and gender prejudices. Women are underrepresented in leading positions and more often than men have a passive, reserved role in the background. They are taken less seriously and less perceived and encounter significant obstacles in the ascension within the hierarchy.

All a lie

The Poster has two levels of meaning:
A direct one – when the poster – surrounded by advertising messages – sticks on a billboard.
And an epistemological one – on the critical definition of the objectivity of the »Radical Constructivism«.
But a good poster explains itself.

Filtered

The Eurocentric-based beauty filters on Instagram or TikTok, for example, not only help to achieve a clear skin appearance and digital make-up, but also “correct” non-European features into small noses, big eyes, high cheekbones and even an automated lighter skin tone. This not only perpetuates the Eurocentric bias of globally accepted beauty ideals, but digitally erases diversity.

Press

Everyday the media provides information from all over the world. Whether plane crashes or breast augmentation, nothing remains unmentioned. Because of the large amount of information there is no more time to question the content. Did it really happen? Is the image real? Who wrote the article? How precise was the research? Is the statement true? We should not trust everything the media presents us.

Leave the Everyday Behind

In this absurd and strange situation worlds collide. On the one hand you see tourists, looking for pleasure and relaxation and on the other hand refugees, risking their lives to escape war, persecution and distress. A scene where suffering of the „aliens“ cannot be ignored. The question is, however, why a legal and secure entry is not allowed to such people seeking protection.

Not being normal is awesome

We’re living in the times when social norms are being reconsidered and broadened, which is amazing and promising. However, when I was reading articles about the widening definition of normal, I was thinking that there would always be individuals who wouldn’t fit into the new normal paradigm. I believe there is a catch in this discussion, by defining normal we are also highlighting our differences. So, the idea of this poster was to show that not belonging could be an incredible experience, too, and there was nothing abnormal with not being normal. The poster is a bit ironical, as the creature is setting its own tail on fire (or biting it, the interpretation is up to the viewers). The poster was hand-drawn with acrylic on paper.
