Size matters – mind the gap!

The fact, that in Germany women compared to men are still paid 21 percent less is unbelievable and totally not appropriate nowadays. I really asked myself how being a „man” (ergo someone having a penis – definition is also out-of-date by the way) brings that somebody to earn and deserve more?

Size obviously matters!

Identity

This poster was made to talk about the absence of opinion and judgment of the people. The crisis of identity when a person just repeats and follows directions without a real personal point of view. We can see this in current social and political movements, which people blindly follow because this is the “correct form” but don’t really question anything.

Violence returns

Violence generates violence, how do we stop this circulation of aggression? A man beats his wife, the son is watching, the boy grows up and now he is beating his own wife, his child is watching…the circle will repeat. We need to stop this creation of violence. It circulates shamelessly in every part of our lives. It is everywhere: in our home, school, university, workplace, on the streets, in media, movies and we cannot find a perfect solution to reduce violent crime – because the solution doesn‘t exist.

Shortsighted

There are so many problems in this world that need our attention and will to change. But we focus on a poor group of people fleeing violence and war, whilst our society is being dismantled by powerful interest groups and our environment is going down the drain for profit of the very same groups. We need to focus instead of listening to self-invested politicians and profit oriented media. We also tend to forget that everything is connected and all the issues can not be seen individually – but together. Most of the blurred words amongst others are direct causes for the refugees in focus.

No Borders

The EU includes some of the wealthiest countries in the world and possesses abundant resources, knowledge, and prosperity. We consider ourselves democratic societies that uphold values such as human dignity, freedom, and equality. It is therefore our responsibility to devise improved solutions instead of resorting to aggressive push-backs at Europe’s external borders or mass accommodation in camps with inhumane living conditions. The right to live in a safe country should not be viewed as a privilege but as a fundamental human right.

Privacy?

Flourishing of social media has led to the global shift in how we perceive privacy. Being normalized in everyday life, constant violations of confidentiality make us wonder where is the boundary which separates private from public. In this whirlpool of doubt and caution, everywhere and all the time we feel persistent presence of someone else. Someone who is watching.

Tolerated

Tolerance doesn’t equal acceptance. It doesn’t require respect, empathy or a change of perspective, but rather indicates an imbalance of power. The tolerated person is being silenced. They are labelled.

Handmade

Many of the things we wear are made by kids. Child labour is still an issue and can not be forgotten about. This what I want to draw attention to with my poster. Clothing sold in Germany may also be made by children. The dress I used is meant to show that no matter how beautiful an item may be, it might come from a place that is just the opposite.

Doodle

The aim of the poster is to raise awareness about the risks of one of the most commonly used digital tools. This risk is caused by the lack of information about data security. Even people with a higher knowledge, the security of digital security is ignored. At some point, a multitude of users seem to be through user-friendly design. By rearranging the letters of the original, the design has been configured to give an erroneous view in a certain way to an observer – a warning sign that a irresponsible collection of data can be used in a dangerous way, especially for minorities.

Form Phallus Function

Form Phallus Function is more than a pun – it points out and criticizes that architecture and design have been a male domain since ever. Simplicity in color and shape, inspired by the iconic bauhaus designs, hit the nail on the head and – in a charming and humorous manner – ridicule this ever lasting motto in design. Less women are never more!

Freedom of Expression

Each individual has the right of freedom of speech and expression. The freedom of information is the most important threat for antidemocratic regimes; hence, attacks against the freedom of speech are a daily occurrence on all continents. I have chosen the image of the famous videogame Pac-Man of the 80ies. Pac-Man consists of bullet casings and chases a pencil, the instrument of writing and the symbol of the freedom of expression, and tries to eat it.

We are the people

This poster depicts a political slogan chanted in the Monday demonstrations in 1989/1990, as a protest against the GDR government.

Nowadays the masses have found the internet to voice protest and express their opinion. Anytime and immediately on can exert influence through online petitions, in comment sections or by hitting like buttons. The poster shows this shift in our culture of demonstration by a swarm of mouse pointers and thereby shows how a large number of individual elements can shape the public understanding.

The Swiss popular initiative “Against mass immigration”, launched by the national conservative swiss peoples party, was accepted by a majority of the electorate (50,3%). It aims to limit immigration through quotas. Darfur

In Darfur a civil war has cost 300.000 human lives and let 2,5 million people to flee the country since 2003. The government backed mounted militias “Dschandschawid” destroy villages, massacring and raping the population. Famine and draught further worsen the lives of the people. In the media everyday life we don´t hear much about Darfur. Many can´t even place the word. Because of this “Darfur” for me stands for the injustice in the world that we don´t know about or possibly don´t want to know about. It might be worth it to reflect on what is truly important in life and the world.

Go west go waste

Sei westlich – Sei verschwenderisch!
